LOS ANGELES – Rapper Nipsey Hussle was behind bars today after police spotted him allegedly brandishing a handgun in Leimert Park during protests over George Zimmerman’s acquittal and later discovered he had two outstanding warrants.

Hussle, 27, whose real name is Ermias Ashghedom, was arrested around 8 p.m. Tuesday near Crenshaw Boulevard and 39th Street, and his car was impounded, a news photographer reported from the scene.

Air units saw the rapper allegedly brandishing a small caliber handgun in Leimert Park, where protests over Zimmerman’s acquittal in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin were taking place, CBS2 reported. He was followed a short distance and arrested for two outstanding warrants, according to the station.

It was unclear if a gun was recovered.

Hussle’s work includes the mixtape series “Bullets Ain’t Got No Name” and “The Marathon,” according to ihussle.com.
