U.S. rapper Snoop Dogg stars in artist Amitis’ latest music video which heavily borrows from the Iranian singer’s Persian heritage.
Amitis, based in the U.S., usually releases songs in Farsi, but this collaboration with the rapper sees her perform in English.
In the “King” music video, Amitis is seen relaxing on a sofa surrounded by women in what resembles a belly dancing outfit as they enjoyed a favorite Middle Eastern pastime: Shisha, or Hookah.
The song then cuts to Snoop Dogg sitting on a throne with a massive Persian symbol behind him.
This is not the first time a Western music video has made use of Middle Eastern reference. Katy Perry’s music video of Dark Horse is set in a mystic ancient Egyptian setting inspired by the north African country’s history.
